There are four Assistant Programmers and One Computer Programmer working in Public Works Department. Two Assistant Programmer are in Groundwater Wing and two Assistant Programmers and One Computer Programmer are working in the Institue for Water Studies. They are doing many work in the department. They are capable to do any IT job.
During the World Tamil Conference, the Groundwater Wing of Public Works Department created a Tamil Website using unicode in a short period of time. Most of the Government Department create their website either with the help of NIC, Chennai or some other private Agencies. But Groundwater websites (one in English and one in Tamil) were created only by their Assistant Programmers.
There are 100s of GIS maps are prepared for almost all basins in the Institute for Water Studies. Most of the work were done by their Assistant Programmers. Almost all software and operating system are being installed by this Assistant Programmers when the software are corrupted.
All the Networks of control wells, Piezometers, rainfall stations are marked in google earth and the KMZ file is stored in their website so as any one can easily locate the site.
For calculating Evapotanspiration ETO value a BASIC program was developed by the Assistant Programmer in the Groundwater Wing of PWD in 1990 and is being used in this department till date.
